Just when you thought it was safe to pack your bags again those charming people from the Unite union are at it again. This time it's the airport workers getting a ballot...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10662740
(link to full article)

The Unite union is to ballot more than 6,000 members about possible strike action at BAA's six UK airports in a dispute over pay...

...BAA operates Heathrow and Stansted airports in the London area, as well as Glasgow, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Southampton airports.

...The strike ballot among Unite's 6,185 BAA members will open on 23 July and close on 12 August...

Unite is currently also in a dispute with British Airways, but has postponed a strike ballot in order to consider a revised offer.

Well it's just this minute been announced that they've voted 3 to 1 in favour of strike action. As I type this no dates have been announced but the info on this link should change as more details are given out.

Note...BAA are the airport staff and not the same as BA (British Airways)

If the strikes go ahead it will mean UK airport closures on strike days and there is some advice for travellers on this Q&A page...

Looks like they've actually managed to come to an agreement on this one...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-10449594

...at least until those so-and-so's from Unite think up something else to ballot for.

Gawd only knows tbh

The most recent news I've found is from last month but doesn't seem to say that it's definitely sorted now...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11207232

...Talks between the two sides ended without agreement last month.

Unite is calling for the restoration of travel concessions removed from strikers, and the end of what it claims to be the victimisation of union members.

However, BA said the cabin crew union, Bassa, had been "talking about holding a ballot for the last three months. It doesn't have the authority to call a ballot."

BA said it had concluded disciplinary hearings into 65 cabin crew - 49 had returned to work and 16 had been sacked.

Wait and see I guess.
